(July 15, 2020) Sailors assigned to the Navy’s newest amphibious assault ship, USS Tripoli (LHA 7), fully raise the commissioning pennant during a small ceremony as the ship transitioned into naval service July 15. Carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt to change homeport in advance of planned maintenance SAN DIEGO - The Navy announced June 17 that Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) will conduct a homeport shift in the summer of 2021 from its current homeport of San Diego to Bremerton, Wash. Theodore Roosevelt will enter Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for a scheduled docking planned incremental availability (DPIA). Theodore Roosevelt, commissioned in 1984, is currently deployed to the Western Pacific. Pentagon warns service members not to use home DNA kits The Pentagon recently warned that military personnel shouldn’t use at-home DNA kits such as 23andme or Ancestry. The advisory, initially obtained by Yahoo News, said such kits could pose a security risk. It also warned military personnel are being targeted by the companies with discounts encouraging them to purchase the at-home kits.“Exposing sensitive genetic information to outside parties poses personal and operational risks to Services members,” the memo noted. “These (direct-to-consumer) genetic tests are largely unregulated and could expose personal and genetic information, and potentially create unintended security consequences and increased risk to the joint force and mission.” ...
